Where can you go in Oakville for an upscale dining experience to please both the vegans and omnivores? That was the question our family pondered as we searched for a restaurant that would please 6 adults with different dietary interests. Thanks to a tip from Toronto Vegetarian Association, we found and were very impressed by Alhambra, in Bronte Village Mall. What a feast we had! Truly one of the best meals I’ve had in a long while.
Here is what we ordered:
Vegetarian Tapas platter: hummus, stuffed vine leaves, olives, Moroccan zalouk, steamed fava beans and the very best baba ganoush I’ve ever eaten.
Vegetarian Casablanca: “An exotic couscous made with a fresh medley of vegetables in an aromatic saffron and fennel broth”. It had the biggest artichoke hearts I’ve ever seen! Loved it.
Primavera Vegetarian Tajine: “Vegetarian feast, root vegetables and seasonal produce topped with dried apricots and raisins. Tajine are slow-cooked stews braised at low temperatures….and complexity of traditional spices.”
My husband and I split the couscous and the tajine and were unanimous: the coucous was very good but the tajine was amazing. Such wonderful spices! We left not a morsel left on our plate. Highly recommended.
For dessert:
Mint tea, baklava (almonds and pistachios in pasty. No butter or honey in Alhambra’s baklava) and Oasis treats (dates, raising, almonds, fresh oranges and a rose water cinnamon glaze). All heavenly!
The meat eaters seemed just as pleased with their selections as we were. Overall, a top notch dining experience. We’ll be back!
